Spring Vibes and Being Present

Spring will come and so will happiness. Hold on. Life will get warmer.” – Anita Krizzan

The cold, dark winter months are officially over friends and spring is here! The days are getting longer, the sun is shining for hours on end, and the air is warming up, where jackets are no longer needed and the fresh air is so incredibly welcome. I love the spring!! It feels new, it feels happier, it feels positive, uplifting and just the perfect gift after the long months of darkness and cold. (Unless you live somewhere that is warm and amazing year round, and if that’s the case- I am so jealous of happy for you!)

Since we’re friends and completely honest with one another around here, I have to admit- the seasonal depression people talk about over the winter months is R-E-A-L for your girl. Some days it feels like you wake up and it’s dark, and before even finishing the workday it’s dark again already. My family has become huge walkers since March of 2020, so when the light is non-existent for those few months, it’s tough to find time to connect with nature, move our bodies and just get some fresh air. I found that my husband and I got in more spats during those months and tensions got high at times, because you felt stuck in the house and not able to enjoy the one thing we loved/needed- the outdoors. Luckily, this winter, we tried something new and adopted a workout routine in our basement, and found ourselves many nights being down there as a family doing what we call, “family workout.” For context, our daughter is 3, so she really just likes to try and mimic what we do, but let me tell you, she can do a donkey kick better than most! πŸ˜„ But man, this new, fun routine really was a life saver during those winter months, and I’m sure we’ll do this next year, too. It kept things fun, gave us the exercise/release we were looking for and we got family bonding time in as well.

Now that spring is here, I can’t help but feel ready. With the winter months in the rear view mirror, I feel excited for what the next season will bring and the memories that will be made. Spring gives us a chance to shed any weight from the past and find inspiration in what’s growing and blooming in our lives. For me, the spring season reminds me to be present. Be where your feet are. Be in the room with the people you are with. Listen. Put the phone down. Experience life and reconnect with what inspires you. Life doesn’t have to be perfect to be enjoyed. You don’t have to be where you hope to end up to appreciate the journey. I writing this to you, and it’s also the reminder I so desperately needed to tell myself. If there is a journey you’re on, and there is something you want that isn’t happening just yet, you still need to be present where you are right now and try to enjoy this moment. Putting your thoughts, hopes, worries, fears toward something in the future is robbing you of experiencing now. Read that again so it can sink in. 🫢

To being present in this moment, and embracing all the beauty spring has to offer…

These Are The Good Old Days

Good morning friends!

I’ve had this thought in mind to share for quite some time, because I think it’s so important to remember. We spend so much time worrying about the past and planning for the future, that now more than ever, living in and appreciating the NOW is fleeting.

Anyone else struggle to remain present? πŸ™‹β€β™€οΈ

Lately I’ve been thinking about how personally I’ve been so laser focused on the future and what’s next that enjoying the journey is getting lost. We’re currently living in “the good old days” and I don’t want this time to pass without truly enjoying it.

Any Office fans out there? (Haha I know, there’s literally a billion of us)! One of my favorite scenes in the enter series is this one: Good Old Days- Andy Bernard He says:

“I wish there was a way to know you’re in the Good Old Days, before you actually left them.”

As he says this he flashes back to good times with his coworkers and moments that at the time didn’t seem very important, but he now realizes that those moments were in fact “the good old days.”

Ahhh… this is literally what I’m talking about here!!! I think in our current world where our heads are buried in our phones and we’re always on the go, leaping to “what’s next,” it’s so easy to let the important moments pass by unnoticed. In thinking about this, I’ve decided to do a few things to get back to being more present, and I hope some of these tips can help you too!

Things I’m going to do to be more present:

  1. Put my phone away when out to dinner or when spending quality time with family and friends
  2. Writing out or acknowledging the small or large blessings of the day that I’m grateful for
  3. Leave my phone upstairs when spending quality time with my husband at night as we wind down
  4. Worry less about posting on social media “in the moment” and actually enjoy the thing it is that I realllly want to post about
  5. Listen better. Rather than worrying about the next thing on my to-do list, where I need to be, or who is texting me, I’m want to do a better job at listening when in conversation

PHEW- That’s a lot πŸ˜…

What is list screams to me is: Put your phone down, lift your head up, open your ears, be where you are, focus on what’s in front of you, worry less about what’s ahead and my favorite and the most important piece- count your blessings

I’d love to hear what some of you do to remain present! If you have something that works well for you, please drop it in the comments!

To the Good Old Days,

Aurora ✨
